2006 Crystal River Vacation             Home

We had a great time in Crystal River, Florida visiting my wonderful in-laws.  The Ballerinas impressed me when they baited their hooks with live shrimp.  They usually don't like to come in direct contact with nature.

Daughter #2 caught quite a fish the moment she threw her line in the water. It took a long time to reel it in.

Daughter #1 caught a Toad Fish. If this isn't the ugliest fish in the world, I don't know what is.

Here's a close up of the Toad Fish. It was comically ugly.

A sting-ray that Daughter # 1 caught.

A crab that Neil caught. In addition to the weird things we caught, we also pulled in some normal fish.

We got to do some snorkeling at a little place called Shell Island. It had a mini-beach made up entirely of broken sea shells.

One of the herons that hangs out waiting for free fish.

A Manatee at the Homasassa Springs Park. That's a carrot, not a cigar.

Lucifer the Hippo, who was made an official citizen of Florida so he could stay at the park.

Our favorite restaurant in Crystal River. Great food and an unusual atmosphere. The owner came to the U.S. as a teen and is just a little patriotic.

At Universal Studios, beneath a sign for Monk, our 2nd favorite TV show (the first, of course, is The Simpsons).

Fun at Jimmy Buffet's Margraritaville restaurant just outside Universal Studios. Great food and a truly fun place to eat.

We had a blast but had to wonder what the employees think about hearing "Margaritaville" and "Volcano" twice per hour.

We get some of our best family photos from random people offering to take our picture.

On our last day we had about a dozen dolphins swimming around us. Very, very cool.

We had a manatee swim right up to our boat! He greeted us then moved on.
